Meet Arlen Black, the hero voted Best Book Boyfriend 2017...
TV writer extraordinaire Lola Scott is about to lose her show because she still hasn't cast the role of the dark, brooding bounty hunter. But then HE walks in ... Arlen Black, and he's perfect for the part. One problem. He's not an actor there to audition. Nope. He's the handyman Lola hired to fix her house. And he wants nothing to do with Lola and her show.

But Lola doesn't give up. As she draws Arlen into her zany world of TV production, Hollywood gossip sinks its claws into him. When one paparazzi photo threatens to destroy everything he holds dear, Lola's got to move heaven and Earth not to save the show ... but to save Arlen.

This stand alone novel is the second romantic comedy in the In Love in the Limelight series.

I have to write a disclaimer that I know Geralyn from when we dubbed ourselves the "Succulent Wenches" in college, BUT it also means I've read almost everything Geralyn has written since those days and I think this book is one of her best.

First off, there were about 5 things I needed to do yesterday before I picked the book up and none of them got done. From the first page I wanted to know what would happen and I didn't stop until I finished the book. I cared about the main characters and wanted them to be together, but I understood the many complex reasons they struggled to have a relationship. I also really liked the supporting characters and the struggles they worked through.

While the tone is light and fun, with dialogue smart and quick, there are moments that I found really moving. Lola is a hardworking woman who is always expected to get the job done and no one really notices the sacrifices she makes. The moments when she talks about this really resonated for me. Arlen, too, has lost a lot - mostly because he's a really caring person.

If you're a fan of novels with humor and heart, I recommend Queen of the Universe.

Queen of the Universe In Love in the Limelight Book 2 edition by Geralyn Corcillo Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Successful showrunner Lola Scott's dream of writing her own television drama series is about to become a reality. But she hasn't been able to cast the perfect leading man for the role of Sam Destry, a brooding bounty hunter, and the deadline to shoot the pilot show is two weeks away. That's all about to change when handsome handyman Arlen Black shows up at the studio and turns her world upside down! Lola knows that she has to get Arlen to agree to play the role, and she'll do whatever it takes!

In Queen of the Universe, the second book in the Love in the Limelight Series, author Geralyn Corcillo weaves a delightful romantic comedy set in Hollywood, that follows the trials and tribulations that Lola and Sam face when their universe collides and brings them together on and off the set. From the time that they meet, there is an undeniable sexual attraction between sassy Lola and broody Arlen, and while both try to fight the attraction, they can't help but be drawn to each other, even when traumatic pasts, family and studio drama, and life's circumstances throws in some challenges that they need to overcome in order for their romantic attraction to blossom into true love.

Queen of the Universe is an entertaining tale that has a fun cast of characters; witty banter and comedic interactions; and the right amount of humor, romance, heartache, and drama that will captivate the reader's attention and leave them wanting more. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I really enjoyed Lola's quirky assistant, Ray Collier, he is hilarious and needs his own story! I look forward to reading Catch a Falling Star, the next book in the series that features the story of actress Wendy Hunter and Lola's younger brother Colin Scott.

Queen of the Universe is a wonderful romantic tale of letting go of the past and allowing yourself to find love.

Disclaimer I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review.
This was one of those stories, at least for me, that seemed to take forever to get up to speed. I almost set it down several times to go onto the next book. Once I got over the hump of the character's backstories, it was an easier read. The heroine is more than a little zany, totally wrapped up in her career, while the hero is down to earth and very much a people person, valuing relationships far more than success. Sometimes he seems almost too good to be true. This isn't a book for young readers. Subplots include gay couples and passionate love scenes but no graphics. Swear words are bleeped but the b word is used. The story does inform the reader about Hollywood politics, but allows love to win in the end. It's okay for a light read if the genre appeals to you. The blurb pulled me in and it was neither the best nor the worst novel I read this month.
It's a fun, lighthearted romcom that delivers on the promises it makes. Lola and Arlen dance around each other for awhile, but The Sexual Tension prevails, and everything lines up for a Happily Ever After. Is most of it new? No, but it does the traditional well.

All of the characters are engaging, and the main ones are well-rounded. You see Lola and Arlen build to a point where they can trust each other, and you root for them the whole time.

The writing was good, but I wasn't a fan of the POV switches. I enjoy getting two perspectives from the leads, but I hate it when one is in first person and the other is in third. It's just inconsistent. Also, there wasn't any regularity as to when we broke away from Lola's perspective, or who we got to see instead. We saw Arlen, Lola's father, Arlen's former MIL...I wouldn't say random, but it jerked you back and forth. And while I like that Lola was a BAMF, and that she's different, the revelation about her past came out of left field, and I'm not sure as to why that had to be included.

But overall a nice, relaxing read
There are a "millionty-seven" reasons to love Corcillo's QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. It's a really smart, emotionally deep, hilariously funny and truly romantic romp with vigorous pacing and characters I fell for, felt for, and then adored. The upbeat, emotionally-intelligent, absorbing and touching story, told in alternating first-person chapters, is immediately immersive--and really, really fun. Corcillo deftly presents life in the Hollywood Hills, and the pace and pressures of creating, running, and fighting for an episodic t.v. show. I cheered (and sometimes groaned) for Lola, the sexy, talented, immensely likeable female protagonist––and for Arlen––a man who can fix just about anything--except the pain in his own life.
I won't give anything away--the novel is much too engaging for that––but I know you'll feel the way I did--glad you got to know Lola, Arlen and the others who populate Corcillo's fabulous fictional world. I'm looking forward Corcillo's next book.
